Fete des fours or Ovens Festival is when all the villagers come together and do a bake sale.
So, bright and early in the morning,
the village firewood oven is already producing sweet tarts, breads and pizzas.

Papa bought 3 sweet tarts to bring to cousins' party.

Satay Anywhere

Skewering took quite a bit of time. Phew...

Gas BBQ grill doesn't give that great smoky taste of authentic satays but can't complain.

Serve with peanut sauce, fresh cucumber & nasi goreng (fried rice)

Brasserie Georges

Brasserie Georges is a very large brasserie in Lyon that can sit up to 500 diners!
We enjoy going there once in a while for family dinners.

I wanted something light so I order a prefixed menu that comes
with some lentil salad and grilled salmon with hollandaise sauce,
which wasn't very good...
Everyone in the family told me I should order choucroute ou steak tartare when at Brasserie Georges.
Darn...

Still it's fun to eat in a big hall and watch people.

Cafet Automat, Food Vending Machines

A vending machine shop just opened nearny Papa's apartement in Lyon.

Five vending machines and 2 microwave ovens

For the european palate, the machines offer pasta, quiche

Supermarket apple tart with apple that were cut like french fries

A teeny slice of apple tart with vanilla ice cream.

For Colin, our friend's birthday,
we made chicken Cordon Bleu, some southern style side dishes
and bought an apple tart from the supermarket.

Cordon Bleu's appearance in our menu was inspired by Stefan Richter
from Top Chef who made cordon bleu when asked to make fried chicken.

Sunday Brunch

Some friends from Paris came to Brussels for a weekend vacation
so mon mari & I invited them to come over for brunch.

Our pancakes are made from Derek Jeter's Buttermilk Pancakes recipe.
This is the best pancake recipe which guarantees delicious fluffy pancakes.

Singapore Breakfast

Cafes serving traditional Singapore breakfast are very popular with the locals.
We love our soft boiled eggs, kaya (coconut + pandan jam) toasts & coffee.

Steamboat at Home

Mama wanted to have do a steamboat at home.
She is a fan of hot soupy things.
Steamboat is not my thing.
I don't have the patience to wait for my food to cook when I am already sitting at the table.
