Singapore Breakfast

Cafes serving traditional Singapore breakfast are very popular with the locals.
We love our soft boiled eggs, kaya (coconut + pandan jam) toasts & coffee.

Steamboat at Home

Mama wanted to have do a steamboat at home.
She is a fan of hot soupy things.
Steamboat is not my thing.
I don't have the patience to wait for my food to cook when I am already sitting at the table.

Nam Nam Vietnamese Food

The sauce was pff.. and the summer rolls were really cold and too chewy because of they were too cold!

Lukewarm soup....

It's fashionable mall food that just not very good.

Chinese Wok

Fried yam ring with cashew, shrimp and veg

Crispy noodles with egg and seafood sauce

Sauteed beef with scallions

Nai Bai with 3 different eggs (salted duck egg, century egg and fresh egg)

Cereal Prawns (A favorite of mine. Here's a recipe)

Braised Stuffed Tofu

My gallerist invited a bunch of us to dinner at a Chinese restaurant called Kok Sen in Chinatown.
We call this sort of restaurant Chi-Char (which means Cook-Saute in local dialect)
It's great to over-eat in a busy, noisy restaurant with good company.

Burger King

Ok, I know it discredits me when I say I like turkey bacons
but I do. (The same with I prefer diet Coke than regular Coke)

BK Singapore is halal to serve our Muslim fellows
so we get turkey bacon instead of pork bacon
which works to my favor because I don't eat pork much.

Gee.. it's been a while I last ate a Whopper.
Hello Whopper! It was a pleasure to reacquaint with it. hmmm....

Roti Prata

Roti Pratas

An array of curries
Indian Style Bee hoon + Mee Goreng (Fried rice vermicelli + noodle)
Mon mari got this new creation, banana and chocolate prata for dessert.
Casuarina Curry is one of our favorite Roti Prata joints.
This Roti Prata blog post is overdued.
Because Roti Prata is one of the most common food in Singapore.
It's an Indian fried pancake made with flour, ghee, salt, sugar & water.
Malaysians call it Roti Canai but it's the same thing.
I love them as a child.
I eat less of them now because of body shape concerns.
But this here is soul food.

Carl's Junior

There are many burger joints here in Singapore.
One of mon mari's favorite is Carl's Junior.
Their burgers are like 20% larger than a regular burger
which makes a very hearty meal leaving one quite burger satiated.

Yes, I like them Carl's Junior burger
but only order their Original Thick Burger,
which is made with 100% Angus beef
which make them rather juicy for a fast food burger :)

Advice:
Don't get anything else in the menu like with guacamole, western & stuff
because it's just too much for an already big burger
that's a bit difficult to hold up and bite into.
You just don't want the guamole, sauce and stuff you paid extra money for
squirt out all over your hands when you bite into your burger.
Capish?
You will thank me later.

Dim Sum again

That's mum admiring the live seafood tanks.
Yes, they are for food.
Har Gow (Shrimp Dumplings)

Siew Mai (Steamed Pork with crab meat wrapped in Wanton skin)

Pan fried Carrot Cake (but really, it's raddish)

Spring Rolls

Char Siew Bao (Steamed Roasted Pork Buns)

I forgot what's it was (I was in the moment & busy eating!)
Oh, I ate more than these on the plate.
Peking Duck. (not the loveliest face now but it's very tasty. We took the rest of the duck home, of course.)

Some crispy fat Peking duck skin, with a smirch of bbq sauce, freah cucumber wrapped in crepe.

Steamed custard buns

Lei Garden is a Hong Kong restaurant group that has 2 restaurants in Singapore.
They served great Cantonese food and yo! they have 2 Michelin Stars.
Yeah, their dim sum is awesome
but of course, it's more expensive.... my baby sister, the yuppy bought the check :)

Valentine Day

Not the best burger but it's decent enough.

I LOVE Banana Splits!!!

Technically, it wasn't Valentine's Day
but the day after, but that's not important.
Mon mari & I dated at Swensen's.
I was there for the banana split.
Let me break down to you what is great about a banana split:

1. 3 most basic ice cream flavors.
Vanilla- the classic, Strawberry- the fruit flavor, Chocolate- the rich taste

2. They are placed horizontally so it's easy to get to the flavor you want
and they don't melt too much into each other.
(unlike other sundaes where different flavors sit on top of each other)

3. Banana is awesome with chocolate and vanilla.

4. The warm chocolate fudge, the strawberry sauce, the banana, the toasted crunchy peanuts, the whipped cream- all these flavors and textures combined to stimulate the taste bud.

5. It is great to share with a girl pal, your lover or just having an entire one by yourself.

The cherry and wafer, I don't care much for to eat but they are great for aesthetic reasons.
I hope you are a banana split convert now.
